If we'd been in a different stage of the development, or had some terrible foresight of what was coming, we might have been well position to pivot and take advantage of the growing digital gaming space. Certainly our digital character creator provides an excellent tool for playing a game like this without ever meeting up in person.
Unfortunately when the pandemic hit we didn't have that capacity. Anyone whose developed a major project like this knows that it has a high cost, both emotional and financial, and during the pandemic our team needed what remained of those resources to attend to their own safety and that of their loved ones. Is Wireless Soul Transmission dead? Well depends on your perspective - certainly you can keep playing it and it'll still exist on DriveThru RPG. It may still exist on this site for purchase - I'm unclear exactly the changes that will happen over the next month or so. The character creator will continue to exist. As for Scribed Starlight Press itself? Its probably best that you assume it is done and gone. I intend to keep the lights on for our websites so long as they don't incur substantial cost (to that end our site is moving to a free hosting model, hence the uncertain changes I mentioned above). Most methods of contacting us will be removed; hearing your experiences and comments was one of the delights of running this project, but now that everyone is back working 9-5s, no one is available to respond. I don't want to provide the false promise of contact that isn't there. All that said, the team are still in contact and we still own all of the rights to the product. This was a passion project for all of us and the life savings that went into the development likely represent a once in a life time opportunity that is now spent. Yet, if better times lay ahead there is nothing that will stop us from returning to pick up where we left off. So I hope you all are continuing to play, whether it be our game or someone else's, and as sad as we are that the pandemic brought us low as a business, we remain aware that the cost could have been so much greater and that for some of our business colleagues it was. Stay safe, roll high, aim for the head. 'Connected' is the term for those with a DNI, but no augmentation and in the post-Shatter world it is synonymous with 'victim'.
Did you miss last weeks reveal of the augmented? You can still find it here. Being augmented means more than just a powerful class, it changes how others perceive you and whether they trust you. Spoiler alert: they won't.
Did you miss last weeks reveal of the disconnected? Go here. Or perhaps you'd like to learn more about the augmented class, that's here. Like the Ginbushi, the disconnected aren't just a playable class, they're also a subsection of survivors and playing the class means being identified as part of that faction.
In this way players aren't just visitors to the world, they're a part of it. Did you miss our bit of silliness last week with the Reever class? go here. Or maybe you'd like to learn a little more about the disconnected as a class, that's here. Is there any actor more synonymous with the cyberpunk genre than Keanu Reeves? Obviously not; so why isn't he a playable class in Wireless Soul Transmission? Well thanks to our completely flawed understanding of what 'good business decisions' look like - now he is, and you can download the PDF free.
Want to gun fu it up but never had the chance? Dying to see if air guitar really can make people be excellent to each other? This class is fully playable with all new talents, but it really was just something fun we were doing internally that got out of hand. It is absolutely fun to play, but it is also a parody and it hasn't gone through anywhere near the balance testing of our other work. Getting brain hacked by the Whisper is always a threat, but what if you had the same power? This week we look at our last class - the Network Ghost.
Missed last weeks post? Learn more about the system guardian here. The Wireless Whisper is the single greatest threat players will face in Wireless Soul Transmission. Foremost it is the system guardians job to protect them from that threat.
Missed last weeks post? Learn more about the ginbushi faction here. We've already talked about our neo-samurai playable class, but the ginbushi are also a faction in their own right.
This is one of the defining features of Wireless Soul Transmission - character's exist in the world. You're not just a generic 'samurai', you're an aspirant of the Whiteblade clan, and that means something, to you, and to the characters you encounter. Did you miss last weeks post on the megacorps? Find it here. We're taking a brief tangent from our class reveals to talk about the factions, and we're starting with the most powerful – the corporations.
Did you miss last weeks post on the ginbushi? Find it here. On our continuing tour of the of the classes, we now look at the ginbushi, nano-augmented samurai, fanatically loyal to the corporations.
